Here's what I've been thinking. Poor design by Pumpstar. Savana I'm sure you kept up on the maintenance being an owner opp and all. That shaft sticks out much farther than schwings design, also they don't have the coupler, probably to keep this exact occurrence from happening. That 10 lb hunk of metal spins at a very high RPM (compiled with the leverage). A little out of balance and it would exert tremendous stress to the housing. I'd call the Pump Star head mechanic and ask how many times he's seen this?

The pic of the u joint.... Did I separate before the Stiebel box detonated? If it did are you sure? I have seen adapter plates like these on the older Schwing pumps. Also some boxes have been known to be brittle. This is a 4194 correct?

Savana, did you ever wind up rebuilding the box? It's not 10k like ed thought. Looks like inside didn't get hot or the fork would have melted, I'll bet you can get away with the bearing (about $4200 from local bearing store) and a new sliding clutch and housing from Pumpstar (probably $1000 total, not too sure because it's been a while). Don't try to get away with just buying the side that broke, you need to buy the whole housing, I don't really know why except I know you do from trying it once. This can happen from time to time from all the torque it takes to stop and start on hills, and bouncing down the road all day creates cracks. I haven't had it happen on the road yet, but I've caught 3 or 4 with cracks in the housing during services and rebuilt them before this happened. I wouldn't blame pumpstar (as someone above me did) I mean it is a 10 year old machine and this shit just happens sometimes.

Mike Sianis with Thomas Nachinery in Orlando,FL told me that the complete Housing cost a round 10 K new price, I replaced the slider gear and shift fork and some seals last winter and it cost me just in parts 1,700.00.

That's the price for the complete box, ready to install. You can save 1/2 by rebuilding it yourself.

I had a spare stiebel box so I put that one in the truck. I talked to Pumpstar on Friday and asked how much the broken part of the box would cost as I would like to repair the broken one. He did not have a price, he will call me back. Thanks for the advice on getting the whole housing. Do the pieces not line up right or what is the problem with just getting one side of the case?

Still have not got it running. Have one drive shaft to hookup. I am also changing out the hydraulic oil so I am cleaning the tanks and changing filters.

I still think it was an out of balance drive shaft. I had the back drive shaft balanced, phased right and new u-joints. This is my spare drive shaft the other one was crack when it came apart. I also had the short one balanced and it was out of balanced. As important as drive shaft balancing is it seems that they should be balance ever once in a while.

I did learn some things about drive shaft lubrication. I suppose most people know these things but I did not. I all ways greased the u-joints till I got grease out of a 4 bearings that is partly correct. You are suppose to keep greasing till you get fresh grease out of all 4 bearings. I greased the splines till it came out the vent hole. When it comes out the vent hole you are suppose to put your finger over the vent hole and keep greasing till it comes out the seal.

Don't ask me why you cannot just get one side of the case. I just know that the guy who taught me the maintenance side said never to replace just one side because he's tried it before and the box will blow up. I thought it was bullshit and tried it once (because in my head I cannot figure out why you shouldn't be able to just put an old side of the shell against a new side), well there was a bad vibration and I rebuilt the thing again after getting a complete housing, and no problem. Also, save yourself the headache and always do the bearings, I don't care how good they look, you should always change them.
